When you're ready to play, if you're performing on stage or want to amplify the sound, just plug it into an amplifier using the plug - in ready feature. For strumming, use your fingers or a pick. For blues or bluegrass flat picking, use a pick and practice different picking patterns. As for maintenance, keep the guitar in a dry and stable environment to prevent the wood from warping.
