After testing many prototypes, he was inspired by modified Retro Active pickups. He chose a set that combines the best of the 81/60 with the versatility of the Retro Active design. Unlike regular open coil pickups, both the bridge and neck pickups use stud poles. The fingerboard pickup with ceramic studs offers a clean, high - end percussive tone. The bridge pickup has black steel poles and a ceramic magnet, like the EMG 81. Both pickups come with custom Retro Active preamps only for Root's set.

Using this pickup set is easy. First, install the bridge and neck pickups according to your guitar's setup. Connect the pickups to the guitar's wiring system.
