EMG and the legendary Geezer Butler joined forces to create the GZR - P and GZR - PJ signature bass pickup sets. This Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bassist began collaborating with EMG founder Rob Turner in 2011 to bring back the classic bass tones from Black Sabbath's early days. In 2013, as Geezer and Black Sabbath transitioned from the studio to touring, the key to achieving the classic Geezer tone was a passive pickup with a genuine vintage feel. To recreate Geezer's early Black Sabbath sound, EMG designed new vintage - style passive P and PJ pickups with modern updates. The all - solderless P set features Alnico V pole pieces and custom - wound coils, delivering just the right punch and grit. The J in the PJ set uses Alnico 5 poles and has two custom - wound split - coils. This not only eliminates the noise and hum typical of 70s bass pickups but also provides more power and volume than standard single - coil J pickups, creating a perfect balance between the P and the J. The result is an unmistakable early Geezer Butler bass tone with deep, tight low - end, just like on hits like 'Iron Man', 'War Pigs', and 'Paranoid' from the 70s. Using this EMG GZR PJ Geezer Butler Signature PJHZ Bass Guitar Pickup Set is easy. First, use the included solderless install system to set up your pickups. Start by mounting the pickups with the provided mounting screws. Connect the cables as per the included instructions, making sure to attach the bridge ground connector and wire properly.
