EMG and the legendary Geezer Butler joined forces to create the GZR - P and GZR - PJ signature bass pickup sets. In 2011, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bassist started working with EMG founder Rob Turner to recreate the classic bass tones from Black Sabbath's early days. In 2013, as Geezer and Black Sabbath shifted from studio work to touring, a passive pickup with a truly vintage tone and feel was needed for that classic Geezer sound. The new EMG vintage - style passive P & PJ design has modern touches. The all - solderless P set uses Alnico V pole pieces and custom - wound coils for a perfect punch and grit. The J (in the PJ set) has Alnico 5 poles and two custom - wound split - coils. This gets rid of the noise and hum typical of 70s bass pickups, and offers more power and volume than standard single - coil J pickups, achieving a great balance between the P and the J. You'll get that unmistakable early Geezer Butler bass tone with deep, tight low - end, just like in 'Iron Man', 'War Pigs', and 'Paranoid' from the 70s. Using this EMG GZR P Geezer Butler Signature Bass Pickup is a breeze. First, use the included solderless install system. Connect the 250K volume pot and 250K tone pot according to the instructions. Attach the mono output jack, and use the mounting screws to secure the pickup in place. Connect the bridge ground connector and all the cables properly. When using, you can adjust the volume and tone pots to get the sound you like. For the best results, start with small adjustments. As for maintenance, keep the pickup clean.
